Title
Placing the world at your fingertips
Description
Have you ever wondered how maps are made? How Google Earth works? How a car Satnav knows where it is? This project provides an introduction to positioning and surveying technology, used both on the land and under the sea. There will be field trips in the local area using GPS and other equipment, including use of a robotic surveying station to measure and create terrain models. There will also be use of sophisticated computer software including Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to provide imagery of what you have collected. There will be a look at spatial information through the ages, leading up to the use of satellite data for remote sensing and even futuristic Augmented Reality!
